Acupuncture is a centuries-old Chinese medical technique, involving the careful insertion of small needles along selected points on the body, used to treat imbalances and obstructions in various organ systems. In traditional Chinese medicine theory, pathologies are the result of relative deficiency or excess in the body – which you may have heard referred to as the inequity between the yin and yang. The goal of Acupuncture is to stimulate the restoration of balance in the body, resulting in organs that function optimally and in harmony with all other body systems.

Many extended health plans will cover acupuncture with either a Registered Acupuncturist or Naturopathic Doctor. Please check with your extended health provider for details.

At AIM, we offer Somatic Therapy Bodywork sessions that support recovery and healing from the effects of chronic and traumatic stress. “Somatic” refers to a body based or "bottoms up" treatment focus. Working with your body and nervous system directly to improve capacity within ourselves and regulation.

Sessions include:

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING® THERAPY, a body focused modality for those stuck in vigilance or fight, flight and freeze. With a focus on improving our nervous system regulation as we recover from chronic stress, early developmental trauma and shock trauma such as medical interventions, motor vehicle accidents, falls and injuries, attacks, multiple traumatic events, sudden life changes including loss and the pandemic.

SOMATIC TOUCH PRACTICE BODYWORK helps support improved regulation from chronic and traumatic stress and the impact that this has on us metabolically and within our hormone system. Somatic Touch can address the foundations in our regulation that are so often missing and that interrupt our access to life energy. This story is often told through our body and the symptoms we experience as a consequence to the impacts of early developmental and intergenerational trauma which includes neo- natal, birth, birthing related events, child hood surgeries, felt sense of shame, guilt and grief overshadowing our days.

Sessions may include trauma informed lymphatic work for surgical and traumatic events that have impacted one’s fluid matrix or require specific integration work on these systems.

Functional Blood Analysis & Nutritional Consultation

Zuzana Friedman, RHN offers both nutritional consultations & functional blood analysis.

Custom Orthotics

At AIM we start with a basic foot & gait assessment to see if custom orthotics can benefit you. In this session we use GaitScan Technology to take a 3D image of your foot to set the design for your custom orthotics. The physician then goes over your case with a Podiatrist from The Orthotic Group, after which your pair of custom orthotics will be made. Please expect 2-4 weeks for all orthotics.

Welcome to Somatic Therapy Bodywork at AIM. I am honoured to work in the rainforest of British Columbia and on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Peoples of the West Coast. I feel an abundance of gratitude to be a visitor of this beautiful land and call it home. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Somatic Bodyworker and touch practitioner, I specialize in body focused therapy that supports healing from the effects of chronic stress, traumatic events, early life, inter-generationally and transgenrationally transmitted trauma. My scope of practice includes what I know in my own nervous system as well as clients who have gifted me the shared sight into theirs. My scope includes both single and complex post traumatic stress. Single events may include a car accident, surgery, cancer treatment, injury or a traumatic event like an attack and may require only a few sessions to resolve and restore regulation. Where as, consecutive accidents, surgeries or loss and grief may create a more complex pattern in your body and nervous system and require more sessions. Ever more complex patterns exist when early life stressors and untreated trauma is transmitted inter generationally in behaviours, narratives and within our nervous system. This has an epigenetic impact within us from our conception onwards in our lives. We may suffer from chronic pain and fatigue, insomnia, migraines, irritable bowl syndrome, sleep and hormonal imbalances, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, mental health disorders, autoimmune conditions or metabolic disease.

In each session, whether we are in a chair or doing work on a table or online, my deep understanding of the human body, our nervous system and years of working with clients, is the lens that my scope of practice is grounded in. Working to address the layers of traumatic stress that becomes stored in our bodies, creating pain and all too predictable patterns that prevent us from enjoying our lives and connecting with our bodies, hearts and spirit. Sharing our story and experiences in life is important and much of what is patterning in our bodies has a non verbal story, one told by our bodies that is often different than our thinking brain. Imbalances and chronic patterns are especially present with early, intergenerational and transgenerational transmission of traumatic stress as well as unresolved shock traumas that become compounded.

I bring to my practice 25 years of bodywork and massage experience. My own experience in life as a mother of three, having experienced motor vehicle accidents, surgeries, early life and inter-generationally and transgenerationally transmitted trauma patterns. This led me to seek out body based, nervous system work to heal.

Education: I completed my certification in Lymphatic Drainage Massage, Aromatherapy and Body mechanics in 2001. In 2013, I continued my studies, completing an Applied Bachelors’ degree in pre-counselling Psychology. My studies included early human development, self regulation and emotional intelligence. Honouring my many years of experience working with my clients’ nervous systems through massage practice. In 2019, I began my studies in Somatic Experiencing®, a body based therapy model for traumatic stress regulation and trauma resolution and I have taken specialized training to offer my sessions in person and online. Having a felt sense that there was something deeper and earlier that needed to be addressed within myself, I continued my studies in the Somatics of Early Developmental Trauma, Epigenetics and Somatic Attachment, completing Somatic Practice® Touch skills and Resilience and Regulation® training. This focus helps me provide the capacity and skills needed for clients healing from the effects of transmitted and early trauma by working directly with their nervous system and their innate resiliency to restore regulation and access their vital life energy.
